- Experiential learning. Coastal hiking requires a set of specialized skills. Our traverse uses gentle beach terrain, while learning about the marine environment, tidal problems, weather, creek crossings, and wildlife. Gain confidence to plan more complex coastal backpacking trips.
- Seeing Pacific Rim with new eyes. Even if you are a regular visitor to Tofino and Pacific Rim National Park Reserve, you probably haven’t experienced many of the hidden pocket beaches. Share these beautiful sandy gems with the eagles and ravens.
- Concentrated intertidal wildlife. Massive rock and cave formations are homes to huge encrustations of purple sea stars, ochre sea stars, green sea anemones, mussels, chitons, limpets, and barnacles. We will visit these astonishing zones as low tide allows.
- Sand dune ecosystems. Sand dune habitats are delicate and fragile spaces. Observe the hard work Parks Canada has been doing to restore this landscape. Rare plant species we see include pink sand-verbena, beach morning glory, and the beach carrot.
